The Aula/Finse Terrace

Story: The Aula/Finse Terrace
Episode: 2
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane

Trevor discovers Antarctica's wonders at The Aula, the world's most advanced learning venue at sea.

  • The Aula is the world’s most advanced venue for learning at sea, featuring a stunning panoramic auditorium at the stern of the ship, inspired by the University of Oslo’s ceremonial hall, where the Nobel Peace Prize was historically awarded.
  • This two-deck-high auditorium seats 190 guests, accommodating half the ship's passengers at once, with tiered seating that ensures optimal views and Marius weave blankets for added comfort.
  • The Aula serves as a hub for lectures, daily briefings, documentaries, and films, equipped with a 4K laser-projected screen that retracts to reveal floor-to-ceiling windows, offering 270° views of the surrounding scenery even during presentations.
  • When closed, the auditorium's window shades display replicas of Edvard Munch’s famous works, including History, The Sun, and Alma Mater, which enhance the venue's artistic ambiance.
  • Adjacent to The Aula is the Finse Terrace, an outdoor lounge area situated just above sea level, featuring recessed couches and warming lava rock firepits, perfect for taking in panoramic views of the surroundings.
  • Named after the Finse Plateau in Norway, the terrace honors the legacy of renowned polar explorers like Nansen and Amundsen, who trained there for their expeditions to the North and South Poles.
  • Viking Expeditions aims to conduct meaningful scientific work, creating a leading scientific enrichment environment onboard through partnerships with esteemed scientific and academic institutions.
