Slane Castle
Slane Castle
On the doorsteps of Dublin is one of the most picturesque and historical areas in all of Ireland, the Boyne Valley. Filled with Irish culture and history, this location houses Slane Castle, one of Irelands most famous 18th century houses.
Home to the Cunningham family, this castle has stood strong since 1701. On your visit to Slane, explore the 1500-acres of the estate by foot or by electric bike and take a look inside the castle.
The bike tour takes the hard work out of site seeing and you can view all angles of the construction of the castle, dating back to 1785. Three different architects were commissioned by the family to help build it! The castle itself is home to a famous romance between Elizabeth Cunningham and King George IV of England. Fast forward to the 80’s and Slane Castle has become a famous concert venue, holding venue to acts such as U2, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Guns ‘N Roses, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, David Bowie, Queen, Eminem.
The castles own whiskey distillery will be opening around May 2017 giving visitors the chance to see the process from milling the barley through to ashing, fermenting and distilling of the nectar. Visitors will be able to taste the whiskey as it evolves, which is going to be the future for Slane Castle.
