Philosophers Path

The Philosophers Path is a pleasant path that runs for approximately 2km kilometers alongside a water canal, just 15 minutes from the centre of Kyoto. The cherry tree lined walkway was originally walked by renowned philosopher, Nishida Kitarô who was the most significant and influential Japanese philosopher of the twentieth-century. The path is now enjoyed by thousands of people from all over the world.

Neville idled the afternoon away wandering down the path, discovering temples and shrines, as well as cafes and quaint boutiques along the way. He was in for a treat when he found a great Japanese tea and coffee house where he tried a green tea cappuccino that was presented so beautifully.

This scenic walk prides itself on the calm and tranquil atmosphere that is created through the use of natural elements such as water, rocks and plants. You will find a number of flowers and plants like azaleas, clematis and sacred bamboo. The majestic, 800 year old tree is a popular spot to mediate and relax under.

The picturesque path takes approximately two hours to complete but the time will pass so quickly with so many things to admire along the way.  It is not surprising that the Philosophers Path is a popular tourist destination at the end of April when the cherry blossoms are in full spring.
