Kanchanaburi War Museum
Title: Explore Thailand 2017
Story: Kanchanaburi War Museum
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
The Kanchanaburi War Cemetery is the main POW cemetery for those that lost their lives constructing the Thai Burma Railway. Today we take a visit.
- There are 6,982 POW's buried here, mostly Australian, British and Dutch and it's where many Australians come to pay their respects.
- Across the road is the Death Railway Museum and Research Centre, where Rodney Beatty has created an invaluable resource for the decedents of the allied POW's who are part of this chapter of war history.
- Rodney discuses with Trevor how he started meeting families of men buried in the war cemeteries and what he did to try to help them find out what happened to their loved one.
- This is a great place to visit after your morning of ANZAC day commemorations.
