Trevor opts for a full-day journey to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Toledo about an hour outside of Madrid.
- Charles I had his court in this "Imperial City," and it was the first city to fall to the famous Reconquista. Today, it is a breathtaking site, renowned for its embrace of the three cultures that coexisted for centuries and celebrated as the home of El Greco, the great Renaissance painter.
- In the Santo Tomé church, the El Greco's masterpiece The Burial of the Count of Orgaz. View the San Cristo de la Luz mosque, built in 999, and the elaborate cloisters of San Juan de los Reyes, founded by Ferdinand and Isabella.
- Toledo is renowned for its combination of diverse and well-preserved architecture. Walking through the narrow, winding streets truly feels like stepping back in time and given the wide array of buildings it often feels like you’re stepping through cultures as well.
