Norfolk Island’s historic Government House is steeped in history and still has many antique furnishings and period features. Trevor takes a private tour of this magnificent building.

  • Norfolk Island’s historic Government House was built in 1829 and is part of the Kingston UNESCO World heritage site.
  • The Government House is a handsome Georgian mansion and is the official residence of the Administrator of Norfolk Island.
  • Eric Hutchinson serves Norfolk Island as Administrator, representing the Australian government to the people of the island and the people’s interest to the government.
  • Norfolk Island’s Government House is the oldest Government House in Australia.
  • Government House is accessible to the public only on select open days. On these days visitors can tour the formal reception rooms, where our official ceremonies and community functions are often held.
  • The first European known to have sighted the island was Captain James Cook, in 1774, on his second voyage to the South Pacific on HMS Resolution. He named it after the Duchess of Norfolk.
