Viking’s home city of Bergen is the final stop on the amazing British Isles Explorer itinerary.
- Viking offer a Working World shore excursion to experience the beauty and culture of a traditional Norwegian farm – the ‘Viking Way’ is all about immersing guests in the destination by providing the opportunity for education and understanding.
- Dating back to the 1500s, Øvre-Eide Gard lies in idyllic surroundings. This excursion takes you on a relaxed and leisurely guided tour of the tranquil property.
- There is a dungeon in this property, once used to house the infamous bandit named Gjest Baardsen. After being held prisoner in the dungeon, he moved to Bergen and started a new career as a writer, poet and songwriter.
- The farm has been in the Øvre-Eide family for 5 generations, since 1875. The farm has been in use for much longer than that, and once belonged to the King of Denmark.
- There are traditional breeds of sheep and horses on the farm. The fjord horse is one of the oldest horse breeds in the world – the farm is also home to the youngest horse breed.
- One of the best parts of farm life is the produce, and Viking guests get to enjoy traditional Norwegian produce such as pastries with berries and cream.
