Story: Phang Nga Bay Islands
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
Thailand is world-famous for it’s islands and the ones surrounding Phang Nga Bay are popular for Hollywood filmmakers and visitors alike. Today Trevor checks out the highlights of these epic islands.
- Travelling by speedboat across the shimmering, emerald green waters is one of the best ways to explore the many islands situated 70kms north east of Phuket.
- Phang Nga Bay is famous for the limestone karsts that jut vertically up to 300 meters out of the water.
- The Strait of Malacca covers about 400 square meters of coast between Phuket and Krabi and is edged in magnificent mangrove forest.
- There are a wealth of caves and lagoons to explore by boat and on foot. Be sure to bring your camera – the views are breathtaking.
- Koh Panak is the first island and one of the biggest in the bay. A true Koh Panak highlight is a cavern that can only be accessed during low tide; an exclusive oasis in a dramatic setting.
- Koh Hong Island is another must-do in your island-hopping journey. Best seen by kayaking through the huge limestone cliffs covered with lush tropical canopies.
- The mangroves of Phang Nga Bay are a natural wonder to behold and a must-do when island-hopping here. They protect the coastlines from erosion while harboring animals like otters and mud crabs.
- Koh Panyee is great place to stop for lunch. This seemingly floating village is a traditional fishing village and there’s no better place for the freshest seafood.
- A day trip exploring these incredible islands is around 3000 Baht (roughly $120) including lunch and hotel transfers. Great value for a spectacular day out.
