Formosan Aboriginal Cultural Village

Situated in Yuchih in the Nantou County, the Formosan Aboriginal Cultural Village is the place to visit if you want to learn about the many aspects of the culture and daily life of Taiwan’s original tribal groups.

Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village was established in 1986 and covers a total area of 62 hectares. The Village incorporates a multifaceted array of activities and entertainment.  There are five theme parks: the European Gardens, the Aladdin Plaza, the Aboriginal Villages, Amusement Isle and Ti Ka Er Rainforest.

The first place to visit is the main arena where members of the different tribes dressed in traditional attire give visitors an insight into some of their traditional dances and gravity-defying rituals.

Throughout the village, scenes depicting the everyday life of the tribes have been set up. Ten different tribal houses have been recreated and represent ten out of the 13 remaining Aboriginal groups in Taiwan today. Inside each house, a different scene can be found, including a traditional wedding celebration. The mannequins are very life like and the beautiful outfits are so elaborate.

In the 1980’s the Village was Taiwan’s largest outdoor museum and the only single location where one could see and learn about all ten indigenous tribes. It is estimated that the park has had 20 million visits since its opening over a decade and a half ago.
