Green Tea Plantation

Green Tea Plantation

Boseong, a town located on the southern coast of Korea in South Jeolla province, is a famous green tea growing area. About 40 per cent of the country’s green tea comes from this area.
Daehan Tea Plantation is a real-life working tea plantation that you can visit here in Boseong. You can get in amongst the plants – you can touch them, smell them, taste them…and even take some green tea home!

Tea has been growing in Korea for at least 1300 years, and in nearby China, for 2500 years.
Green tea is made by picking fresh new shoots and adding hot water, and steeping it to the strength of your preference. In comparison, black tea is made by taking green tea leaves and steaming and drying them. To make flavoured teas, you can mix the tea with other herbs or just have it straight – black tea.

Tea grows really easily in Australia – we should all be growing some in our backyards.

At the plantation, you get the chance to walk the fields of tea and check it out in person. The tea is harvested in the months of April and May by hand, with the rest of the year spent caring for the plants. The plantation is laid out in rows on a slope of a mountain. The walk is relatively easy – and there are some wonderful viewing platforms. Sit back and enjoy the serene view.

After a few hours walking through the plantation – you will feel hungry and thirsty. There is a rest aunt here – make sure you try the green tea (iced or hot) and green tea ice cream. Don’t leave here without trying these.
