  • It is believed that over 60 million years ago, unique columns were formed from solidified lava resulting from a volcanic eruption.
  • The tallest of these columns, measuring up to 12 metres high, are an impressive sight to behold.
  • According to legend, the Giant's Causeway was created by two warring giants, Fionn mac Cumhaill (also known as Finn McCool) and Benandonner. Fionn, an Irish giant, built a path of steppingstones to reach Scotland after being insulted by Benandonner.
  • However, Benandonner ripped up the path, resulting in the creation of the Giant's Causeway. The site and its surrounding area boast unique geology, flora, and fauna, including large caves underneath the bridge that were once used by boat builders and as shelter during storms.
  • Distinctive formations such as the Giant's Boot, Camel, Wishing Chair, and Harp are also found in the area.
  • Visitors have the option to explore the site on various walking trails, including the blue, red, and Runkerry trails, which cater to different levels of mobility.
  • Additionally, the Giant's Causeway Visitor Centre, designed by Dublin-based architects heneghan peng, is a state-of-the-art facility that opened in 2012. The building has won numerous awards for design innovation and sustainability and includes a café and souvenir shop.
  • Visiting the Giant's Causeway is like walking in the footsteps of giants and is an experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
