Sculpted out of sandstone, the remote Iles de la Madeleine is situated in the middle of the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

• The Madeleines are home to unique fishing communities with beautifully maintained waterfront houses and boats, flowing grassy plains and sculpted sandstone shorelines.
• Europeans first discovered the islands in the mid 15th century, though it’s thought indigenous Mi’kmaqs have been visiting for centuries to hunt walrus. Quebecois and Arcadian culture runs strongly through the towns and villages of the islands, through local cuisine, craft and language.
• There are 12 main islands in the Madeleine group and the first that was inhabited by early Arcadians is beautiful- built on a red sandstone base. It is the most forested of all and offers not only coastal experiences but also the opportunity to hike through the woodlands.
• The town is incredibly beautiful and overflowing with artisans of every kind- music, gift shops with unique crafts, art and the charming French language awaits the visitor.
• Strolling through the streets and along the beach that gave the town its name, you just want to find a comfortable place to sit and watch the day pass by.
• Match all of this against a very happy and hospitable population and you have a lot to look forward to!
