Episode: 2 Canada West Coast
Title: Mission Hill
Broadcast: Jan 28th 2017
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane and Scott Taylor
You know you’re in for a treat when The New York Times refers to this place as the gold standard of wineries and Condé Nast Traveller calls it the Versailles of the valley. Trevor and Scott travel to Mission Hill Family Estate, this property is so much more than just a winery. Anthony Von Mandel had a vision and pored a fortune into making this place what it is today.
- Mission Hill has spectacular architecture and views to die for but Trevor and Scott are here to try its revolutionary wine.
- The wines are sampled from the tasting salon; Mission wines produce wines across 4 tiers with Oculus being their flagship wine. Oculus is a blend of Cabernet a Bordeaux style red wine made from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdo.
- Scott chats to Patrick Peszos sommelier at Mission Hill. They talk through some of Mission Hills most recent awards including the decanter award for their Rosé Vass Pinot Noir- this wine embodies the continuation of Anthony Von Mandel’s dream of producing world quality wines in the Okanagan and turning the Canadian wine industry into a world renowned area.
- And lastly Trevor and Scott head to an underground cabin blasted out of volcanic rock set under the winery, there they taste wines straight from the barrel.
