An isolated granite massif, Mount Gorongosa rises out of the Midlands and sits as the highlight visual point of Gorongosa National Wildlife Park.
- With its highest peak, Gogogo, reaching an elevation of 1863 metres, the mountain boasts some of the most spectacular waterfalls, with the largest being Murombodzi Falls.
- At over 100 metres high, these falls are part of the vital link between the rivers across the mountains to Lake Urema.
- The trip to the waterfall is a bit of a trek down the mountain, but the views along the way are incredible, and the waterfall itself is absolutely spectacular. The view is simply breathtaking, and if you’re brave enough you can take a dip in the freezing cold water.
- This region is becoming a tourist hotspot, with tourists keen to explore the natural beauty of the landscape, as well as the many walk trails in the area. These walks are a great way to get in amongst the environment and discover how the locals live on the mountain while ensuring that the ecosystem stays healthy.
- There are small villages lining the path along the way to the top of the mountain. You’ll be able to see the wide variety of fruit and vegetables that are grown across the mountain that are used both within the communities, and also to barter at the local markets.
- The market areas are a great place to catch up, and for the kids it makes an ideal spot to practice their soccer skills. Life on the mountain has plenty to offer, and it is an incredible opportunity to be welcomed into the villages, and the experience the landscape of Mount Gorongosa.
