There are many roads around the world that are famous for delivering sheer beauty and New Zealand has a few of these! The Queenstown – Glenorchy Road has to be one of, if not the best, on the South Island.

It must be the combination of the soaring snow-capped mountain peaks meeting the azure-blue waters of Lake Wakatipu that makes this a real pleasure to drive.

Taking only 45 minutes, we would recommend allowing yourself 1 to 2 hours, as we can guarantee that you will be stopping at every vantage point to take hundreds of holiday snaps.

The driving around the South Island has been nothing short of spectacular and this last destination on our adventure just keeps on pushing the wow factor.  We’re headed to Queenstown today -- adventure capital of the South Island.

Queenstown has some of the most stunning lake and alpine scenery in the country, and we are going to go on a driving safari with Nomad Safari!

The roads on the Nomad Safari can be pretty challenging. Most of them are closed to hire cars, and a 4WD is a must for many of these tracks. It’s great not to be driving, so we can enjoy the scenery!

The tour covers about 100km in around 4 hours, and along the way, there are plenty of stops and lots of tales. One of the great things about this tour is the size of the groups they take out – they are small, which means a lot of time for asking questions and talking with the guide.
