Botanic Garden Ubud
Botanic Garden Ubud
Here is the garden that Stefan Reisner built….having just recently celebrated it’s 1st year anniversary, it is hard to believe that this was a site originally home to wild Bamboo. Stefan is from Germany and with his team of gardeners and designers, have worked their magic to manicure the land into a remarkably picturesque site. Pathways and steps join five hectares of natural ravine which include an orchid garden, a vast collection of ferns, palms, bamboos and tropical trees, Bali’s first maze, an Islamic garden and a chocolate grove.
Here you can see the wondrous carnivorous Pitcher Plants - Nepenthes, the biggest collection in Bali. Also on display is a medicinal garden showing most herbs that are used by traditional healers of Bali. Sights not to be missed are also the meditation court as well as the succulent garden featuring the fabulous looking and tasting dragon fruit.
It is very easy to spend the entire day here as Nigel and Neville found out as they explored each of the 20 odd gardens. The café’s refreshments will get you through the day with a unique drink on offer, the rosella tea made from the buds of the rosella plant.
This lush and tranquil sanctuary just 1.2 kilometers from the heart of Ubud and sits 400 meters above sea level. The Garden is a unique tourism destination as well as a retreat for Ubud’s residents. The Amphitheatre makes an ideal location for weddings and events and serves as an inspirational garden sanctuary.
“Travelers can come to a standstill after thousands of miles of noisy travel,” explains Stefan. “Our Botanic Garden is like a palace with the sky as roof and many different rooms, secret chambers, galleries and staircases. The visitor wanders through changing vistas and experiences, encouraged to trespass into Nature. This is the message of our Garden.”
