Shetland Island is known for its incredible views and tiny ponies.
- The Viking Panorama and Ponies excursion gives you the opportunity to visit a small pony breeder.
- Small ponies have existed in the Shetland Islands for over 2,000 years, with various excavations revealing the bones of small ponies from The Bronze Age.
- Due in part to the harsh weather, small ponies can have quite bad tempers.
- Carol Fullerton, the owner of the Ramnaberg Stud, is one of the few Shetland Pany breeders in Lerwick. She states that the ponies are less temperamental if you make it clear you are the boss when they are foals.
- The trip through the Tingwall Valley to Girsta features a landscape of peat bogs and heather. Girsta has amazing fresh water lochs and rugged mountainous scenery that will get your camera snapping.
- Tingwall Valley is the centre of the Shetland Islands, and the spit of land in the centre of the loch is where Vikings held their parliament. They arrived in 850AD, and this is where they would look at legislation, create laws and socialise.
