Bagpipe Workshop
Segment: Bagpipe Workshop
Episode: Into the Midnight Sun Ep 4
Air Date: 3rd November 2019
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
Viking offers guests the chance to check out two of Scotland’s most famous exports with the whisky tasting and bagpipe workshop shore excursion.
- The optional Viking shore excursion begins with a three-dram whisky tasting, hosted by Scotch Malt Whisky Society ambassador James.
- To get the most out of each sip, hold your whisky glass to the light, swirl it and then nose it – empty your lungs, keep your mouth open, and then take a big sip.
- You drink whisky straight from the cask – because of this, it’s at cask strength, which is 60%.
- Instructor Louise Marshall has performed for luminary visitors such as Pope Benedict XVI and Queen Elizabeth II.
- Louise comes from a family of pipers, with her father and brothers playing the instruments. From the age of 2, Louise would watch, humming along with the tunes.
- No one quite knows the exact history of the Scottish Highland bagpipes. They did not originate in Scotland, possibly coming from ancient Egypt.
