With a population of 285,000 people, Bergen is the home of Viking Cruises, and is a beautiful city to visit.

  • At 1000 years old, Bergen was once the home to kings and incredible Nordic legends, and was even the capital of Norway for a time. The city once enjoyed its wealth from its fishing industry, but today it is sharing the area’s incredible beauty that’s driving the economy.
  • Norway is the home of Viking Cruises, with founder and proud Norwegian, Torstein Hagen, registering his ocean fleet to the waterside city of Bergen. As winner of the best ocean cruise line for 4 years in a row, Viking’s small ships embody modern Scandinavian design, and take guests closer to the heart of incredible destinations such as this.
  • The Funicular is a tram that traverses 320-metres above sea level, with the views over the city being absolutely stunning.
  • Just in front of the North Sea lies one of Bergen’s major oil bases - oil and gas are the main sources of revenue for the Norwegian economy.
  • Bergen is home to a world-famous fish market, once a vital cog in the economy of Bergen. Nowadays, fish are farmed, so the fish market is as much an intellectual discovery on the history of the region as it is a vibrant and exciting place to enjoy.
  • Located on the harbour’s edge since the 1200s, this is the ultimate destination for seafood lovers, with Hildegan’s seafood tower being particularly delicious – fresh lobster, scampi, prawn, king crab, scallops, 3 oyster varieties and mussels.
  • Bergen is stunning, with the white painted 19th Century houses on the Nordnes Peninsula being a particular stand out.
