Dale of Norway (Working World)

Segment: Dale of Norway (Working World)
Episode: Into the Midnight Sun
Air Date: 13 October 2019
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane

With Norway having a much cooler climate than many of us are used to, it’s important to make sure you’re dressing correctly.

  • Dale sweaters are some of the most iconic pieces of clothing you could buy. The sweaters are made in the west coast village of Dale, and visiting the factory is one of the Viking shore excursions you can take – known as The Viking Way of exploring, these excursions offer Privileged Access, Local Life and Working World experiences.
  • The Dale excursion is an example of the ‘Working World’ experience. The knowledgeable Dale of Norway staff will help you to understand more of the local economy and history, and in this case, a quintessentially Norwegian handicraft.
  • The company started creating sweaters for Norwegian Olympic Skiing teams in 1956, with the Salt Lake sweater being one of their favourites.
  • The sweaters are designed to last, able to last over 50 years.
  • The community of Dale has evolved around the textile industry, with the entire village embracing a culture that centres around knitting and creating traditional designs.
  • This sweater is designed for comfort and keeping you warm, and you can pick one up at the gift shop. During this excursion, not only do you get a guided tour of the factory, you also have time to explore the village on your own.
