Geiranger Fjord Arrival

Segment: Geiranger Fjord Arrival
Episode: Into the Midnight Sun
Air Date: 13 October 2019
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane

The Geiranger Fjord is considered to be one of Norway’s most spectacular fjords, with some of the most spectacular scenery you could ever hope to see.

  • At approximately 15km long, the Geiranger Fjord is a UNESCO protected location, and the best way to view it is from your Viking cruise ship.
  • The fjord was formed by ancient glaciers moving through the landscape – as they slowly melted they carved the fjords, showing the enormity of the forces that shaped the area.
  • The fjord is home to some incredible waterfalls, including the famous Seven Sistors, the Bridal Veil and The Suitor. The ship’s captain will take you up close and personal.
  • As the Viking ship is a smaller cruise ship, it is able to get right in the middle of the fjord – on top of this, they have easier port access, and loading and unloading takes a lot less time.
  • Leaving the curtains open in your room will mean you wake up to an incredible view each and every morning – all Viking staterooms have views out over the water.
  • The small village of Geiranger is beautiful, and there’s so much to do here – there is amazing eating experiences, as well as activities such as kayaking, fishing, hiking, rafting and cycling.
