There is no more authentic Scottish experience than testing the local’s favourite drink – Scotch Whiskey.

  • Invergordon is home to one of the most famous, most awarded distilleries in the region: Glenmorangie.
  • Set by the tranquil shores of the Dornoch Firth, the distillery was established in 1843 by William Matheson.
  • The whiskey produced here uses centuries old methods to create the distinctive flavours – a craft that is entrusted to the care of 16 craftsmen, known as the 16 Men of Tain.
  • Glenmorangie means ‘valley of tranquillity’ in Scott’s Gaelic, and there is a lot to be said about the whiskey’s unique characters.
  • The Glenmorangie Still House is known for their unique tall stills. When the company started, there were only 2 stills – there are now 12.
  • The recipe doesn’t change – whenever something does change, they make sure not to change the final sprit character. Glenmorangie is unique in that it is such a sweet, fruity, citrusy whiskey.
  • This is a Viking Working World Shore Excursion, a chance to immerse yourself in the economic environment of the communities you visit. A visit here gives you access to the distillery and its warehouses, and shows you all stages of the whiskey making.
  • After being distilled, the spirit is sent for maturation. It is aged for around 10 years in American oak barrels, which vanilla, coconut, coffee-like flavours. The maturation contributes about 60% of the flavour of every single malt whiskey.
