- He created a beautiful garden at his home that became a source of inspiration for many of his paintings.
- His garden has two parts: the flower garden in front of the house and the more famous water garden.
- The flower garden is about a hectare in size and is laid out in colour-themed borders.
- Monet married flowers according to their colours and left them to grow freely.
- He also developed a passion for botany, exchanging plants with his friends Clemenceau and Caillebotte and collecting rare varieties.
- The water garden, inspired by Japanese gardens, was created ten years after his arrival at Giverny and features a famous Japanese footbridge and water lilies.
- Monet created many of his most memorable works during his last 30 years, when his paintings focused almost exclusively on his Giverney gardens.
- Despite his passing, Monet's gardens and spirit continue to inspire visitors who come to admire the beauty of the gardens every year.
