Trevor ventures off the mainland to Phillip Island, an island located 6 km south of Norfolk Island. Phillip Island is renowned for its unique red rock landscape and sand dunes which are reminiscent of mars!
- The Territory of Norfolk Island comprises Norfolk, Phillip and Nepean Islands.
- Phillip Island is located 600km south of Norfolk Island and is protected by the Norfolk Island National Parks.
- Phillip Island has an area of 190 hectares (470 acres), measuring 2.1 km (1.3 mi) from west to east and 1.95 km (1.21 mi) from north to south, with the highest point, Jacky Jacky, being 280 m (920 ft) above sea level.
- All visitors to Phillip Island must be accompanied by a guide familiar with the terrain.
- Phillip Island has been nicknamed the ‘Uluru of the South Pacific’ because of its wind-worn contours and rocks of rich reds, purples and yellows.
- Each year thousands of migratory seabirds, such as masked boobies, black-winged petrels and sooty terns, nest amid rare and endangered plant species.
- The Phillip Island Hibiscus is endemic to Phillip Island. This species has been reintroduced on the island through an active program of propagation and breeding.
