Story: Local Grower’s Market on Saturday Morning
Episode: 1
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
Air Date: 5 June 2021

The Saturday Growers Markets allows locals and visitors to choose from a bounty of fresh produce sold by local farmers.

  • The farmer's markets are held every Saturday morning from 7.00am - 9.30am in the Bicentennial complex on Taylors Road.
  • One of Norfolk Island’s key philosophies is the ‘Paddock to Plate’ idea, which involves cooking and eating produce with zero food miles.
  • Norfolk Island fruits and vegetables are grown locally and all seasonable, not imported. A rich agriculture ideal for farming and growing.
  • While the markets are small, fresh vegetables, fruit and herbs as well as local yoghurt, milk, cheese, loaves of bread and sometimes fresh fish are available seasonally.
  • The local Grower’s markets enable visitors to meet the local farmers and learn about how fruit and vegetables are produced on the island.
