On the east coast of the South Island sits the beautiful seaside town of Kaikoura. Its wildlife, including a colony of adult New Zealand Fur Seals near the town center are a large reason why so many people travel to this part of the world.

- Kaikoura’s waters see the largest whale in the world, the blue whale, which grows up to 33 metres in length.
- Kaikoura is only one of three places in the world where sperm whales can be seen so closely.
