A great train journey can be found on board the TranzAlpine, which transports us from Christchurch, the gateway to the South Island, across to Greymouth on the rugged West Coast. Chrissy Morrissy and Trevor Cochrane share the most spectacular and comfy ways to move from west to east and back again on South Island by the TranzAlpine train.
The train winds its way up the beautiful Alps, the setting for some famous movies such as “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit”. The mountains will then give way to the tussocks that signal the East Coast. You will find rivers thunder alongside the tracks as the scenery changes.

• The journey takes approximately 4 hours from Christchurch to Greymouth.
