Korea’s largest island, Jeju, also known as the Hawaii of Asia, is home to some stunning beaches, lush countryside and seaside hotels, making it the country’s favourite holiday destination.

  • Just a 1-hr flight from Seoul, Jeju is not just a tropical getaway. The volcanoes that formed the island also created an environment that is the basis for a whole culture of healthy living, including tea farms, agriculture, lush gardens and herbs.
  • Jeju Island is covered with volcanic rock statues known as grandfather statues. The legend goes that rubbing the noses of these statues during your honeymoon will increase your fertility, hence the popularity of the island among newlyweds.
  • One of the islands most popular exports is green tea, with Jeju considered as one of the top 3 green tea growing regions in the world. The islands green tea is so well regarded that there is a museum dedicated to its history, cultivation and medicinal properties.
  • There is also the Haenyeo, a group of local women, who took to the water to support their families centuries ago, and they’re still going strong. With an average age of 72, these women free dive to collect seafood, before hauling it over the volcanic rocks to sell at the markets
