Donguibogam Village Korean Medicine Theme Park

Story Title: Donguibogam Village Korean Medicine Theme Park
TX Date: Nov 11th 2018
Presenter: Christina Morrissy

With much of the practices being based around the link between changes in our body, natural phenomena and energy, or chi, Korean natural medicine makes up a huge part of the local Korean culture. Located in Sancheong, the Donguibogam Village is a theme park devoted to the practice.

  • Translating to ‘treasured mirror of Eastern medicine’, the donguibogam was a text written more than 400 years ago to ensure all Koreans had the tools and skills to heal themselves. Even now, it is a core text all doctors of oriental medicine study.
  • In the park, you will be able to learn about the history of oriental medicine, and its ability to heal and ward off illnesses. You also have the opportunity to experience it for yourself, with meditation and stone beds to help your body relax, as well as private hot herbal healing baths.
  • For thousands of years, the ingredients in oriental medicine have remained the same, and you will be able to find many of them in the park’s greenhouse. This building is a living catalogue of the herbs in the region. These same herbs are served up for lunch as in a traditional Bibimbap, part of the principle of food being both nourishing and medicinal.
  • At the top of the theme park, you can find 3 huge stones that the local Koreans believe radiate health, luck, and positivity, thus giving you the opportunity to reconnect with your chi. These rocks draw tourists from all over Asia.
