TX Date: Nov 4th 2018
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
Considered by many Koreans to be one of the finest examples of Korean culture, the city of Jeonju is the spiritual home of the Joseon dynasty and capital of the Hubaekje kingdom. With an incredible range of food available in the city, it is well worth a stop on your wellness holiday.
- Home to 250,000 people, Jeonju is a city unlike any other. It hosts no major industries, but instead is a historic reminder of ancient Korea. In 2003, it was designated as a Master of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, and while walking the beautiful cobblestone streets of the traditional Hanok village, it’s easy to see why.
- The Hanok village is a must see on your trip to Jeonju, with 700 immaculately maintained traditional Korean houses. These buildings are known for their unique architecture, with concave beamed tiled roofs, and the stunning use of natural timbers against the white washed mud walls.
- The city is most famous for the classic Korean dish, Bibimbap. This is a rice, vegetable and meat masterpiece, with Jeonju being considered the best place to experience Korean food culture, there is no better place to try it.
- Jeonju is a beautiful city year-round, with May offering spectacular cherry blossoms, and summer bringing absolutely perfect weather. Autumn brings an incredible amount of colour to the area, with red, yellow and rustic hues everywhere you look.
