Ski Jump Observatory/Ski History Museum
Ski Jump Observatory/Ski History Museum
The word Alpensia is an amalgamation Of ‘Alpine’, ‘Asia’ and ‘Fantasia’, which sums this place up beautifully in the winter.
Take the monorail to the top of the ski observatory, which is approximately 90-meters above ground. Here you will find the Alpensia Ski Jump Lounge, which is a great place to sit back, relax and grab a cup of delicious Korean Green Tea and take in the outstanding landscape.
The Alpensia Tower is a landmark of the region and the perfect platform for viewing the Alpensia area. This is going to be one of the hosts for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. The tower hosts both domestic and international events and has been recognised as one of the best places in the world for this sport. It’s also the official training venue for the men’s ski jump.
The ski jump coming off the Alpensia Tower would have to be one of the most remarkable sports of the winter games. Coming off the 90-metre tower and belting down ensures the braveness of the athletes. When you see them fitted out in their super flight suits you think to yourself that there’s nothing to them, but you will find yourself holding your breath as they take off and fly through the air.
Visit the stadiums free ski history museum, which will put you on a journey of ski history in Korea. This takes you back to the early 20th century and makes visitors realise just how far ski technology has come in just over a century. Just imagine what a technologically advanced country can achieve when they put their minds to it. In 1912, they were getting around in wooden skis and used to be simply slats of timber held together with metal brackets. They are now made out of carbon fibre.
A visit the ski history museum will open to your eyes to just how far the fascinating history of Korea has come. With their long, illustrious history when it comes to skiing, the Koreans have participated in all of the major competitions for many years and have won thousands of awards.
Super skis and super skiers have provided Korea with great pride in their ski teams for many decades and today Korea is home to world champs in many disciplines and Korea plays an important part on the international competition scene.
This is an amazing part of Korea and one not to be missed.
