Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Fishing Festival

Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Fishing Festival

The Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Fishing Festival welcomes visitors from across the world and is particularly popular with the locals too. There’s a heap of activities going on in the area including bobsleighing, snow sledding, ice soccer and even ice cycling but Trevor tries to try something which will give him a bit more of a rush.

Winter in South Korea brings a lot of different opportunities and if you’re there for winter one thing you should consider attending is the unique experience of ice fishing.

You can throw a lure down into the ice and drag the fish up or you can quite literally jump into the water and reach down into the water, grabbing fish with your bare hands. Although it’s freezing, this barehanded ice fishing is all the rage in Korea.

There are so many fish and it’s easy to catch so many. Before you take it home you hand it over to the workers who will pop it in the grill for you or you can have it as Sashimi.

This would have to be one of the best ice festivals in Korea. Fantastic fish, a lot of fun and eaten fresh, what more could you want?
