Enchanting Riverside Town
- Cochem is a small quaint town located on the Moselle River in the Rhineland Pfalz, Germany.
- Cochem was first settled by the Celts in the fifth century BC.
- Few towns in Germany can match the charm of Cochem. Its picturesque beauty makes it a favourite place for visitors.
- The town is surrounded by high elevations, steep vineyards and typical wine villages and offers tastings, festivals and genuine hospitality.
- Cochem is rated as one of the prettiest villages along the Mosel.
- The social and commercial hub at Cochem is the market square, which dates back to the late 1700s.
- Reichsburg is the pride of Cochem. Overlooking the main town in the valley below, the castle has stood here since around the year 1000.
- It was largely destroyed by French troops in 1689 and was rebuilt in a neogothic-style that was completed in the late 19th century by businessman Jacob Ravene, who used the castle as a family summer residence.
- Today the castle is still well-equipped with Renaissance and Baroque furniture, which was carefully collected by the Ravené family and is a popular tourist attraction.
