Nestled around a gentle curve in the river and framed by rolling hills and famous Rhine Valley vineyards the patchwork of roofs of Cochem looks like something out of a fairytale.

Enchanting Riverside Town

  • Cochem is a small quaint town located on the Moselle River in the Rhineland Pfalz, Germany.
  • Cochem was first settled by the Celts in the fifth century BC.
  • Few towns in Germany can match the charm of Cochem. Its picturesque beauty makes it a favourite place for visitors.
  • The town is surrounded by high elevations, steep vineyards and typical wine villages and offers tastings, festivals and genuine hospitality.
  • Cochem is rated as one of the prettiest villages along the Mosel.
  • The social and commercial hub at Cochem is the market square, which dates back to the late 1700s.
  • Reichsburg is the pride of Cochem. Overlooking the main town in the valley below, the castle has stood here since around the year 1000.
  • It was largely destroyed by French troops in 1689 and was rebuilt in a neogothic-style that was completed in the late 19th century by businessman Jacob Ravene, who used the castle as a family summer residence.
  • Today the castle is still well-equipped with Renaissance and Baroque furniture, which was carefully collected by the Ravené family and is a popular tourist attraction.
