  • Bamberg’s history goes back to around 1007, when the cathedral was built.
  • The rose garden offers a beautiful view out over the historic section of the city, showing off many of the 2000 historical buildings. Many roofs are sagging, showing the age and medieval structure of the cuty.
  • Bamberg has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and has been since 1993. It’s one of the larger sites in Germany, with the city not being damaged in WW2.
  • With its four towers, The Cathedral of St Peter and St George is one of the most prominent buildings in the city. Inside lies the tomb of Pope Clemence II – the only pope buried in Germany.
  • There are over 1200 monuments and statues to be found around the city – have your camera ready!
  • It is a steady walk through Bamberg’s Old Town – with the cobblestone streets, there is a certain romance to exploring the beautiful city on foot.
  • All around are crooked and high timbered buildings, which is partly because of the constructions standards back when they were built. The foundations of have moved, and so have the buildings.
  • The Old Town Hall is in the middle of the river – one of the only town halls in the middle of a river. The frescos were painted in the 1750’s, when the town hall was updated in the baroque style.
  • Bamberg is known for its smoked beer – don’t worry if its not your thing, as there are 11 breweries in town, and another 60 in the immediate region, offering more than 400 types of beer.
