Quidi Vidi in New Foundland is a gorgeous town you simply must visit when in Atlantic Canada
A Storybook Town
- The quaint fishing village of Quidi Vidi set in a protected cove, guarded by sheer granite cliffs, is a must see
- Once home to major cod fishing industry, the piled fishing nets, lobster pots and rustic shacks are a reminder of its long and rich, sea-faring past
- New, boutique industries are emerging, breathing new life into the hamlet. The Plantation building, houses a community of artisans while the The Quidi Vidi Brewing Company, is harnessing the resources of passing icebergs and is rapidly becoming a major tourist destination
- Atop of Signal Hill sits the impressive Cabot Tower. Impressive not only as a major landmark but also for the fact it was built entirely from large hand cut blocks of bluestone imported from England in 1898 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of John Cabot's discovery of Newfoundland
- Take time to explore the city and you'll notice rows and rows of colourful, weatherboard houses. There are many theories suggested for these colours but the one Trevor likes is that the houses were painted brightly so the fishermen, after a long drinking session in the pub could stagger back and pick out the right house
